Howard “Howie” Schwarzman is responsible for importing some of the most amazing close-up magic ever seen. Not a craftsman himself but an inventor and magician who has opened up our eyes to magical treasures worldwide. You can read more about Howie here
This is probably the most sought after effect from Howie’s Limited Editions line of magic back in the 1980’s and 1990’s and which was subsequently purchased by Hank Lee c. 1995. This mirror came in an Oak frame and this one, a Gold frame. With the exception of the finish there is no other difference between the two versions.
The inspiration for this effect was created in Japan by Mikame Craft and called: Mirror-A-Cle. After communication with Domenico Dante I can confirm this gold version was made by Magiro and purchased directly from him by Schwarzman.
The invisible motion of the silk when you walk away from the frame does not use any threads and is a great extra feature that really flaws them.
When practicing this for an upcoming Speed Demo I found adding some felt to the stand to secure the frame when pushing items through and also adding some felt feet to the bottom of the stand made performing this significantly easier and more effective.
It is an impressive item that when performed with a clean mirror and correct light looks totally amazing – lets hope I can do justice to it soon 🙂
Includes:
Effect: The effect is startling. Show a beautifully decorated mirror in a stand. The mirror is large, 16″ x 18″. Take the mirror out of the stand and show it all around. Front and back. Nothing to see. Put the mirror back in the stand and the magic begins.
A sponge ball held against the mirror “sticks” to the glass! Then, it slowly penetrates right through the solid glass! It looks unbelievable!
Hold a silk handkerchief against the mirror. Slowly it begins to penetrate through! Walk away from the mirror. Still, the silk continues to penetrate through! As the silk finishes its penetration, the mirror is once again shown solid! Absolutely unbelievable!
Again, remove the mirror from the stand and show it all around!
As the reviewer says, make sure you keep the mirror clean.
