Washout by Steve Dusheck

(c. 1975) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)

One of my favorite gimmicked coin effects! I remember seeing the Eddie Gibson version of this in 1977 and loved it then and still do today. I thought this was originated by Eddie Gibson because I have seen it advertised as Steve Duscheck’s c. 1976 and Eddie Gibson c. 1975. The Eddie Gibson version I saw used a smooth shiny brass washer without the lines. However, after discovering an advert by Eddie Gibson (Abracadabra, March 5th, 1977) where he clearly states it was invented by Steve it becomes clear this was invented by Steve Dusheck.

Anyway, although this was a popular effect manufactured by Eddie Gibson and often attributed to Eddie in both American and UK Magazines, it was actually invented by Steve Dusheck.

Effect: A silver dollar is covered with a shining brass washer and immediately an American cent falls into performer’s palm, the dollar having vanished as so many dollars are wont to do. You can patter about inflation, deflation or whatever. It comes complete with a “bang ring” to get it ready for the next performance. The washer can be shown on both sides and who would suspect the little penny!

One of the best gimmicked coin effects

I remember seeing the Eddie Gibson version of this 27 years ago and loved it then and still do today. It’s a simple and visual effect where the half dollar can be clearly seen all the way until it changes into a penny. The washer can be shown on both sides and who would suspect the little penny!
