Gravity Box No. 1 by Ron Allesi

(c. 2003) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)

Based on Bill Tresslar’s idea c. 1995.  This was originally released by Ron Allesi but Hocus got involved  because they had a connection with Doug Malloy and that is how it ended-up as one of their “exclusives.”  Of the original limited edition of 100, the first 75 went to Ron and the final 25 went to Hocus.   But then more were made and sold by Hocus … I purchased this directly from Ron and it was the first one available and number #1 of 100.

Robert Houdin’s Light and Heavy Chest has always intrigued magicians. However, most versions, including the expensive modern one from Tom Yurasits, are not very practical. This certainly can be used and used and I see no reason why it won’t keep on working for years to come.

Since this version was released there have been many others using the same original Bill Tresslar method, the most notable versions coming from Gimpy’s Magic.

Effect: Sitting on your table is an attractive wooden chest that measures about 7 3/4″ square. Your audience plainly sees that the box is holding your props, and is otherwise unremarkable-well, except for its gorgeous, handcrafted quality! Invite a spectator up to help you with an experiment in mind control and hypnosis. Hand the box to the spectator for them to hold as you explain how easily susceptible some people are to hypnosis.

Placing the box on the floor, you open the top and put a white silk inside. Now, you begin to hypnotize the spectator, explaining that the silk actually weighs a ton! (They think you’re kidding!) The spectator is now instructed to try to lift the box. They can’t! The spectator strains and sweats but that box won’t budge-no way nohow!! How can this be? After all, you aren’t standing on any false floors or using any superconductor magnets or even using a stooge! It must either be hypnosis or… magic! The box is ooened the silk is removed and guess what … the chest is now lifted easily! This version of the Light & Heavy Chest is new and improved, made of polished black walnut and manufactured by master craftsman Doug Malloy.

Its furniture quality is only enhanced by gleaming brass hardware, a beautifully finished interior, and the special heavy-duty gimmick! The box can be shown freely at all angles before being set down. Just reaching in for an object or pulling out an object sets the gimmick in a second.

Remember:

  • No electricity!
  • No wires!
  • No magnets or magnetic apparatus ofany kind!
  • No electronics!
  • Nothing is attached to you at all!
  • There are no trays, falsefloors, or heavy tables used!
  • The Gravity Box is entirely self-contained!
  • Features a brand new and ingenious principle!

Its simplicity of operation is incredibly effective, and you’ll marvel at the method yourself once you lay eyes on it! Not only is it a gorgeous piece of craftsmanship, but it will rapidly become the highlight of your shows, whether you perform serious mind-control or stand-up comedy mentalism or even children’s shows! It’s the perfect prop at the perfect price!

Beautiful Box, Great Comedy, and Without The Hassle!

Thanks Ron for sending me #1 of this limited edition!
