Silken Mystery Box by Tony Karpinski
(c. 2008) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)The Hank Box or Jap Box as it is sometimes referred to traces back at least as early as Hoffman’s Modern Magic c. 1876 where it was referred by the name Japanese Inexhaustible Box (pg. 393), with versions being made by Bland, Kling, and Thayer.
What is particularly pleasing about this item is that the load mechanism works quite differently from others I have see and it works very well. To release either of the double loads you do not need to place your hand inside the box at all, which is particularly useful for productions of spring items and silks.
Effect: The open framework of a chest is shown all around. It is placed on top of its tray which is also shown all around. In an instant the magi produces an almost endless amount of silk ribbon and streamers. Everything is shown empty again and one more time an almost endless amount of silken streamers, scarves or ribbons are produced. Fabricated in Walnut woods and very cleverly gaffed with a double load chamber. This is a parlor or stage effect that you will over and over again!

More classical magic that works as beautifully as it looks. Mel Babcock would be proud of these items as there is certainly similarities to his style. Howie, please keep hold of this new craftsman you have found – let’s not have another Disappearing Jerry situation!
