Triple Card Prediction by Mel Babcock
(c. 2005) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)A beautiful prop made with fine solid Walnut and Zebra Wood touches, easy to perform, a very clever method and an amazing price. Based on an old effect that Mel read in a magazine c. 1965, Mel also added the single stand to mount the three small stands to make it easier to handle and set-up.
Effect: A red backed deck of cards is shown and fanned with the backs toward the audience. A spectator is asked to select as card which the magician places in a small stand. The back of the card is towards the audience. This is repeated with two other spectators and their cards are also placed in a stand, all three now with their backs showing.
Next a blue backed deck is shown. This deck is fanned with the faces towards the audience. Each of the three spectators is now asked to select a card. They get to see the card they are going to select. Their cards are placed in their respective stands. The two cards in each of the stands are back to back and the audience sees the three cards facing them. Now, each of the three stands is swiveled around to show that each spectator has selected the same card from both the blue and red backed decks.

A REAL Babcock Winner
I had seen this effect from Mel Babcock in his book and had contemplated buying one but never came around to doing it, till now. Well, I received it today and I am exhilirated. Beautiful prop made with fine solid walnut and zebrawood touches, easy to perform, and very clever method. The best part is the price. How Mel can sell such quality magic for such low prices is beyond me. However, I am sure glad to add this apparatus to my collection and that’s that I am picky. Clearly one of his BEST.
The effect is straightforward. Three red back cards are freely selected and placed in the holders without showing the faces. Then, three faced cards are selected from a blue back deck and also placed on the holders, the values facing the spectators. One by one, each holder is slowly swiveled around and the cards MATCH. Again, there is NO FORCE involved.
It’s Magic like this that makes one so happy to be in this hobby.
