Outer Space by Ken Allen
(c. 1955) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)This is what Peter Warlock in the Pentagram (July 1956, Vol. 10, #10, pg. 79) has to say about this effect:
When we read the description of “Outer Space,” Ken Allen’s trophy winning trick we thought the plot sounded a little familiar. If you have a copy of “Patterns for Psychics” (written by Peter Warlock) turn up “Trigon II” and if you substitute E.S.P. cards for ordinary playing cards you can save yourself a matter of a couple of bucks.
Although the stand itself is worth the extra bucks even if you know how the effect works.
Effect: You put five ESP Cards in a plastic stand, and a spectator puts in five, so that there are now five pairs of cards in the compartments of the stand. When the magician takes the cards from each section, it is seen that the pairs are matched, design for design. The trick is purely mechanical; spectator has free choice as to where he puts his cards: stand is unprepared. Good, clean magic, nothing to worry about, and a telling effect when “sold” as it should be. Well made. For stage or club.
