Spikes Thru Balloon was invented by Bob Gurtler (aka Andre Kole) and markted by U.F. Grant c. 1958. This version by Bill Taylor first appeared in Genii Magazine – December, 1960. The same version was later released by Owen Magic Supreme and what a beauty it is.
Effect: The spectator is invited to blow up a balloon inside a small tube with small circular holes in the sides, and a larger window in front and back. The balloon extends from either end of the tube, and may be seen through all holes. A sharp pencil, borrowed if desired, is then trust through the two small holes, apparently penetrating the balloon. Next, a wand is pushed through, and finally, a flimsy drinking straw penetrates the sides of the balloon, and smoke is blown right through to prove something-or-other to the disbelievers. The balloon is removed WITHOUT DEFLATING IT, and is handed out for examination.

Andy Martin –
No fake Balloon Penetration
I grew up with an effect called the Balloon Tube – I don’t know who did the original, but MAK and many others have had their variations. I like this one from Owens because it is all clean before and after with no fakes to be seen. Clever idea!
