Mongoose is Loose by Tannen’s
(c. 1990) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)The Mongoose is Loose is a great idea and great fun too and I used to make it part of my Educated Duck routine. When the Duck fails to get the last card you resort to using the mongoose. You introduce the cage with warnings about a live mongoose, “Handle with Care” etc. You ask everyone to be very quiet and if look closely in the back of the cage you’ll see his tail. They can see the tail, but no movement. So you had the spectator a stick inside the cage and ask them to ever so gently touch the tail. But gently does it!
The tension builds up and suddenly the lid snaps open with a crash, and the tail goes flying out across the audience – attached to the end of the tail is their chosen card! Very exciting and entertaining!
Effect: Not a magic trick, but one of the funniest items you will , ever see. Bring out a small wooden cage. It is 8″ x 8″ x 18.” . It looks like a packing crate with a chicken wire mesh at the front and top. Explain that you just got this in from overseas. There’s even a shipping label from Nigeria * Airways on the side of the cage. It looks legit. They can see a tail sticking out from the back of the cage. Explain that there’s a Mongoose inside, but he’s sleeping. Carefully poke a stick inside and try to wake the Mongoose. No luck.
Ask them if they would like to see the little fella. Of course they would. Offer to bring him out. Begin to reach in when WHAM , BAM, SLAM. The top of the cage flies open and out flies a furry Mongoose. They will scream. Tliey will holler. It happens so fast, they are caught completely off guard! It’s a great gag. Just plain funny. Instead of loading the gimmick with the Mongoose tail, load it with a Spring Raccoon. After you terrorize the spectators, you can go right into your favorite Rocky routine!
A great idea! The Mongoose Is Loose. Possibly the biggest laugh you will ever get!
