Ultimate Finger Chopper by Chance Wolf

(c. 2005) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)

This finger chopper really is a beauty to behold. Very solid construction, beautiful finish, perfect mechanism, and great value. But if you look very closely you will see that this one is slightly different from the first one I owned in 2005. Chance used Cocobolo wood for just 15 units and they were sent to his hard core fans just as a surprise thank-you back in 2005 and this would go unnoticed by most people.

Chance should actually consider making a full-size one in exactly the same style as it really is a nice version of the U.F. Grant French Arm Chopper. Of course he should only do this as long as it does not stop him making his next mini-magic item.

Now as wonderful as this chopper is – and it truly is – I was not sure how convincing an illusion it is. With the standard sized French Arm Chopper the illusion of the hand falling off is very convincing. However, with this mini version I was not so sure. After reading the instructions some more and a quick email to speedy response Chance I have my answer. As long as you do it quickly the illusion is perfect! Come on don’t be shy, just give it a hard strike! The great thing about Chance’s props is that they are designed to be handled in the real world, and this baby can certainly handle some rough handling!

Effect: We’ve taken the classic French Arm Chopper and squished it down to a pocket sized 6 inch tall FINGER CHOPPER! For those of you not familiar with this version of the French Chopper, the spectator’s finger VISIBLY FALLS INTO the VELVET BAG!! We’ve re-engineered it, upgraded the mechanics and materials to far surpass its big brother. This little guy is BUILT TOUGH! The features for this effect include all aluminum and walnut components, along with a nearly invisible gimmicked area and cute little hand-sewn red velvet bag. The bag has a collapsible rim so the whole unit can fit conveniently into your pocket! This unit also comes in a velvet bag to keep it protected from the elements! Great for the Performer or Collector!

A good online video, that Chance does so well, of the effect in action would also help. In fact, there are some details in the great routine that is included that suggests the illusion is very effective.

Either way, Chance has another winner on his hands. Keep them coming Wolf Man!
