The Cylinder and Coins by Joe Porper, R. Paul Wilson

(c. 2004) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)

John Ramsay’s Cylinder and Coins continues to stir the hearts and minds of magicians all around the world well over 70 years after it was first introduced to the world by Victor Farelli c. 1948 when he published John Ramsay’s Cylinder and Coins in a small photo-illustrated booklet. With the performance of Eric Mead on Penn & Teller in 2017 it seems to have been reinvigorated all over again.

If you wanted to have the best shot of actually mastering this effect without spending most of your life like Eric Mead has to master it then you could look no further than this beautiful set from Joe Porper and R. Paul Wilson c.  2004.  Doesn’t mean it will be easy or you will succeed but you’ll have a shot and feel good about doing it too.

Effect: These props have been designed to perform a completely updated version of John Ramsay’s classic effect. You hold in your hands the product of many years of work on this wonderful trick. In this booklet we will teach two handlings of the Ramsay effect.

The first is a much simplified handling based on Dai Vernon’s from The Art of Close-Up Magic. The second handling is much closer to the original, but will require more practice to master. These props may, in fact, be adapted to almost any handling of the classic Cylinder and Coins effect. If you are already familiar with the original Ramsay routine or John Carney’s excellent streamlined handling in Carneycopia, you will find that these props can be applied to both routines with a little thought on your part.

This is the first time a classic like the Ramsay Cylinder & Coins has been taken to the next level. With R.Paul Wilson’s creative thinking and the craftsmanship of Joe Proper, you can be sure you will have one of the finest coin routines of its kind. Complete set includes cylinder, silver dollar coins, wand, coin rattle and custom-designed presentation case.
