Rosewood Turnover Box by Tabman
(c. 2003) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)Effect: I have long loved tricks with coins and the brass Okito box and have learned many of them over the years. When I started making magic using casino chips I wanted to add my favorite Okito box routines but the dollar sized Okito box in my collection was a little small to fit the slightly larger casino chips so I decided to make a set. First I made up a set of a regular box and a Boston type box out of mahogany.
I use a lot of mahogany because Floyd Thayer made a lot of his magic using this wood so it’s in honor of Mr. Thayer that I do this. However, a lot of fine vintage gambling apparatus was made of rosewood as well so I pulled out some expensive rosewood lumber and made up some sets using this. Rosewood is really beautiful as you can see in the picture below. I made them square so they would look more like gambling apparatus. This shape makes more sense to me in this context.
