This effect was first created by William Brema c. 1935 as Coin Thru Match or Coin Through Match. The effect was: “A small oblong block with a slot in the middle large enough to allow a dime or a penny to drop through freely is shown. A match is inserted in a hole in the center of the block, and after a coin is dropped in the slot the coin apparently passes through the match and drops from the bottom of the slot.”
This is a beautifully made item and a very clean, convincing and simple penetration. This effect is easy to do and made in high quality plastic, similar to the beautiful items created by the master himself: Eddy Taytelbaum. You rarely see this sort of quality work these days.
Effect: A small multi-colored plastic case is shown and a quarter is borrowed. The quarter is dropped thru the plastic slide to show it fits without any obstructions. Next several wooden matches are introduced and the spectator is allowed to pick three matches of his choice. The three matches are pushed through the three small holes in the case and extend on both sides in clear view.
The quarter is dropped into the slot and is held from sliding through by the matches. A flick of your finger on the case and the quarter falls to the table, penetrating the three matches. Everything is now handed out for the spectator to try himself, which does not work.
