Poly-Gripped Plus by Steve Dusheck

(c. 1981) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)

Trust Steve Dusheck to come up with a clever notion! Now Edwin has added to the Original. There’s no ‘fishing around’ in the pocket to get hold of the plates or anything of that sort. It’s all so open, it’s all so disarmingly simple.

Effect: A borrowed bill vanishes and appears between two clear squares of plastic which are firmly bound together with elastic bands.

At the commencement, the magician displays a sealed envelope. He bangs this envelope on the front of the table and it is heard that there is something inside it. To prove there is no substitution of the envelopes or anything of that sort, the magician with a marker pen writes a signature or a number or anything at all across the top of the envelope, which is placed in full view where it remains. A Treasury note is borrowed, it can be any Treasury note, it doesn’t make any difference, it is folded-up and placed into another small envelope from whence it vanishes. (Or you can vanish it via Supreme’s “Back to Buddha” Papers, Originated by Ken de Courcy, this is a subtle twist on the old ‘Hindu’ or ‘Buddha Papers’ inasmuch as all the papers can be examined at the end!)

Now the magician takes up the sealed envelope. Without “moves” of any kind, again he taps the envelope against the front of his table. He tears the envelope open and inside are two plastic plates. They have been placed together in the form of a sort of star. These plates are tightly banded together with elastic bands.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, BETWEEN THE PLATES IS THE ACTUAL BORROWED TREASURY NOTE.

The elastic bands are removed, the plastic plates are opened and the spectator himself takes the note, you don’t touch it at all, and meanwhile you replace the bands around the plates. The bands and the envelope on the table could be examined if you wish, the plates could be examined. There is no way into them. You do not use a chute, or any gimmicks, all you use is the envelope, the two plastic plates and the elastic bands.
