Know Fu-Ling by Larry West, Emerson and West

Effect: Larrv West strikes again in a card effect that uses Chinese magician and his bountiful assistant. A clever card story with two sur­prises!

Four cards are shown blank on both sides. They are placed together in pairs on the table. A card is selected and a number between 3 and 45 is thought of. Magician states that he is going to try to make contact with the spirit world and the great magi Fu Ling Yu. Magician picks up one of the pair of cards and separates them and Chinese writing has magically appeared on one of them.

Magician says, “There is the number of your card.” Then apologizing that he didn’t realize spectator cannot read Chinese, magician translates it and names spectator’s card. Then as he picks up other pair of cards, he asks spectator to name the number he is thinking of. Separating the cards the magician says, “We’ve made contact, there is a perfect match naming spectator’s number and precisely what he is thinking of … a caricature of the magician’s glamorous assistant.
