The Jail Card (Plexi-Gefängniskarte) by Eckhard Boettcher

(c. 1982) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)

Effect: The performer introduces a deck of cards and states that he is about to show an amazing trick (or tell an amazing story) about the most efficient police detective in the world and also the most secure jail ever devised by man. A deck of cards is spread face up, a card removed, and introduced as the detective. The detective card is placed into the performers pocket and the spread of cards turned face down.

Any spectator chooses a card and is handed a pen with which to write his name or initials across the face of the card. The card is returned to the deck and then handed to the spectator to lose the card somewhere in the deck so that no one knows where it is. The spectator is asked to deal the cards face up upon the table one at a time so that we can all see at what number his signed card resides. The spectator counts all 50 cards face up onto the table and his signed card has vanished.

The Jailhouse (banded plexiglas panels) is removed from the coat pocket and handed to the spectator. He is asked to call attention to the fact that the Jailhouse is secured… The detective has done his work and caught the crook (the signed card) and imprisoned him in the cell along with himself. The signed card is seen bound together in the plates with the detective card.
