Here is a beauty based on Magiro’s amazing and clever Spirit Dice.
Magic Wagon haven’t really changed anything about the mechanics for this clever item. They have effectively added a box around the whole mechanism and made the effect out of teak. It does look nice and works very well. However, as I have mentioned before, part of the beauty of Magiro’s work was the utter simplicity and lack of anything extra or flashy. It was the extreme austerity of his props that made the effects so amazing. That being said, no one makes cool magic boxes like Magic Wagon and they did a marvelous job with this one.
Effect: A spectator is invited to select and call out any one of the six spots on a die. The choice is completely free and there is absolutely no force of any kind. The performer then directs attention to the beautiful wooden box that has been in full view the whole time and explains that prior to the show he made a prediction and placed it in this box. The box is then opened revealing a small holder with a cover isolated in the center of the box. Surprisingly, when the cover is removed, the uppermost number of the die inside is a perfect match to the one chosen by the spectator!
The effect is completely self-contained and the mechanics are absolutely ingenious and devilishly clever! There are no electronics, no threads, no outside gaffs, and only one regular die is used.
Devil’s Dice has been inspired by one of the most sought after Magiro effects called Spirit Dice. If you’re unfamiliar with the method, you’re going to be amazed by the ingeniously designed mechanism used to control the regular non-magnetic die and able to select face up any one of the six sides.
Devil’s Dice measures approximately 9cms square by 6cms high and has been completely handcrafted from natural aged teak wood with a lightly distressed oil finish. The inner wooden cover is also adorned with a beautiful brass engraved question mark motif plaque.
