Coppered by Alan Warner

(c. 2014) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)

Effect: Standing on a table there is a wooden holder out of which the performer tips a plain wooden plaque. A copper coin is then tipped out of a small wooden cover which is also standing on the table. The performer then goes on to explain that wood has a great affinity for copper and then proceeds to prove this claim.

The performer now drops the plain wooden plaque back into the holder and then slides the copper coin into its cover. Holding the cover in one of his hands, he then tips the open end downwards and shakes the cover from side to side. THE COIN HAS GONE!

The performer now tips the plaque out of the holder to reveal to the spectators that THE COPPER COIN IS NOW EMBEDED IN THE WOODEN PLAQUE!

The problem now is this: what has happened to the circle of wood which the coin replaced? And the answer… Quite simply, it has proved the performer’s claim of its affinity with copper and taken the place of the coin!

To prove this, the performer picks up the small cover, shakes it and instantly, something inside it can be heard to rattle. The performer upends the cover and out slides THE MISSING CIRCLE OF WOOD!

BEAUTIFUL HANDCRAFTED APPARATUS:

  • The handcrafted teak wooden holder measures approximately 3.5″ x 2.75″ x 0.5″ and features a decorative wooden design set in relief on the front of it.
  • The small teak cover measures approximately 2.375″ x 1.25″ x 0.56″ and features banding around three of its sides in addition to a decorative design in wood on the top of it.

The apparatus comes complete with The Alan Warner Routine.

One thing I dislike about the handling of a lot of magic props is their noise. Most often there shouldn’t be any, so this creates suspicion. This is never an issue with Alan’s work, because he understands and is meticulous in execution.

Coppered is a prime example of Alan’s ability to create micro magic that is easy to perform, entertaining and great to look at! Transposition tricks are one of my favorite elements of magic and this one delivers in spades. Well done!!
