Copper Sandwich by Eddie Gibson
(c. 1977) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)Copper Sandwich was actually invented by Al Koran c. 1948 and was originally performed with a matchbox and the gimmicked coins of the time (see New Pentagram April 1973, pg. 13). Eddie Gibson refined it, using more advanced coins, and created the brass box for an even cleaner and more amazing penetration.
This version uses US coins, but the original used UK coins which can be seen here.
Effect: The lid is removed and the brass box is shown to be empty. Three coins are placed in the box, 2 five cent coins and a dime. The lid is replaced and the box picked up between finger and thumb.
A spectator is requested to tap on the lid of the box. He does so, and immediately one coin penetrates and falls from the base of the box – the copper coin. The lid is again removed and the two remaining coins are tipped out.
Sounds impossible, but it is accomplished very easily with the special box and coins provided.
