Chin Chao Color Blocks by Magic Wagon

(c. 2007) (Submit Review) (Submit Update)

This effect originally called Bloxo, was invented by John Rice and sold by Harry Stanley c. 1960.  Eddy Taytelbaum created an exquisite version which many of the modern day versions emulate because they use a rod instead of a ribbon to secure the blocks. I’ve owned a few different versions, including some pretty ones from Alan Warner, Mel Babcock and Milson-Worth. Although these ones are all amazing, none of them are quite as stunning as the quality and finish of this set from Magic Wagon.

Effect: A cabinet with five different colored blocks which are impaled by a solid brass rod is displayed. The brass rod is removed and the performer allows the five colored blocks to tumble out. One color is freely selected by the spectator and all the blocks are placed back into the cabinet and the lid is then closed. The brass rod is reinserted through the cabinet, impaling the blocks and again locking them inside the cabinet. While the blocks are still visible through the holes on the lid, the performer slowly opens the bottom of the cabinet and the blocks visibly penetrate through the brass rod and fall onto the table leaving only the selected colored block remains on the rod!

The block, brass rod, and cabinet can be thoroughly examined before, during and after the effect.

The cabinet measures approximately 16 cms wide x 8.5 cms deep and stands 6.5 cms high the rod in its own sheath is 16 cms in length and made of brass with teak wood handles.

Finished in the finest possible coating with hand polishing and sanding in between.

    More Breathtaking Quality!

Here we go again with some really incredible quality magic from those great guys over at the Magic Wagon.

This is an old effect, and I’ve owned versions from Alan Warner and Mel Babcock, and there have certainly been others. But although Alan’s and Mel’s are beautiful, it is hard to compare with the quality and finish of this set.

Just totally breathtaking. Just look at the amazing magic in the Magic Wagon Collectors Line – it is hard to find anyone either today or in the past making such beautiful magic.

Highly Recommended for Magic Collector’s and appreciators of fine craftsmanship everywhere!

    The Best Just Got Better

Just when you thought high quality couldn’t get higher, Magic Wagon has gone and outdone themselves. The Chin Chao Color Blocks along with Magic Wagon’s latest group of offerings once again proves that this company has a mission in mind. That mission is to show the magic community how far quality props can be pushed, and still be attainable. High priced? Yes. High quality? You have to see it to believe it.
This is an old effect, done to perfection by Alan Warner, Mel Babcock, and Clarence Miller to name a few. But Magic Wagon in my opinion, has taken this potentially pedestrian trick and turned it into a parlor masterpiece. It is just that pretty. The color palette, finish, hardware…everything, makes it feel like something special. My only criticism – and I believe it’s valid – is that this piece is so precious that it’s hard to take it out of its box to perform. But, I guess if you ‘re going to have a fault, that’s a good fault to have.
