Baby Kangaroo Coin Set by Eddie Gibson

This is a wonderful coin effect from the British coin master: Eddie Gibson. It is often known as Kangaroo Coins, however it should not be confused with the Dai Vernon effect of the same name c. 1946 which relied on sleights and misdirection and is a coins through glass effect. Eddie’s version uses gimmicked coins and involves like coins jumping back and forth to match their mate and the coins do all the hard work.

I’m not sure if this version was made by Eddie or not – the caps are actually more substantial than the last set I had.  It uses pennies and dimes, instead of half dollars and quarters, so a little more close-up than usual.

Effect: Four coins are shown both sides, two dimes and two pennies, as well as two polished brass caps. One of each of the coins are covered by separate brass caps and are positioned four to six inches apart. The second penny is placed on top of the cap containing the other penny, and the same is done with the second dime. The performer lifts both caps and marker coins to show that each coin does, in fact, mark its counterpart. Now, without any false moves, the marker coins are switched position, i.e., the marker dime is placed on the cap containing the penny, and the marker penny is placed on the cap containing the dime.

A wave of the hand over the caps and coins and it is found that the pennies are together again, on and under one cap, and that the dimes also have invisibly passed across to join each other. The caps are replaced and the coins again switch positions: the amazing transposition takes place again. Nothing will stop the concealed coins from joining the similar marker coins as they are switched. The caps can be lifted at any time to show that the two pennies are together, and the same applies with the dimes. The transposition can be repeated as many times as may be required.
