This effect was invented by Jimmy Flowers c. 1948, manufactured by Reg Gayton c. 1949 and sold by Harry Stanley c. 1954. It was re-introduced by Supreme Magic c. 1980 and also sold by Mephisto-Huis c. 1983 and probably others. Supreme Magic purchased the exclusive copyrights rights of all Harry Stanley’s line c. 1972.
Effect: KEN BROOKE SAYS . . “In my opinion ‘Luna’ is one of the greatest of all kiddies tricks. Having seen and heard the reaction this effect has on the children, I recommend it in the highest terms”.
It is difficult to convey even a brief idea of the effect in print, but the following will serve as a n outline:
The “Man in the Moon” (a large wooden disc with a face painted on it), is taken from his home (a prop. made up to look like a Cloud) and placed in a second box. (This has two doors, and is finished like a Storm Cloud.) The magician explains that the idea of the trick is to “pass” the Man in the Moon back to his former home, and it is here that the almost endless fun starts!
Tipping the box from side to side, and opening one door at a time, the performer claims that the Moon Man has Vanished! Unfortunately for him, each time the box is tilted, a DULL THUD is heard! The kiddies are not slow to tell him that they want to see BOTH doors opened at the same time. After much fun, they are finally opened together, and of course, our little friend has Vanished !
Picking up the original “home cloud”, magician boastfully announces that the Moon Man has returned home. BUT, upon opening the door . . Horror of Horror’s . . It is seen to be STILL EMPTY! Something has gone wrong, and the performer starts to “explain”. During the “explanation” . . the Moon Man PEEPS OVER THE TOP of the Cloud which the performer is holding, and the kiddies shout out. But every time magician turns to have a look at what the kiddies are shouting about, the Moon Man drops back out of sight! this makes them YELL more than ever. Eventually he is caught, and another HOWLER comes to an end. It is Great Entertainment.
A WINNER EVERY TIME!! Adults will Love it too. A beautifully made prop. in wood, handsomely decorated. Excellent for Drawing Room or the Largest Stage. Ready to Work Right Away!

Andy Martin –
Great Fun for younger kids!
This combines the fun of a die box with run rabbit run. Firstly the man in the moon slides from side to side, then he dissappears. However, he does not return to the cloud … everytime the magician looks away he pops his head up. Eventually when they are almost storming the stage you catch him popping his head up!
This plays very well with the under sevens.
