This is a modern looking version of the Gallows released by Greg Lindsay, Thomas Pohle’s The East Friesian Bedside Lamp, and others over the years. It is the same basic effect – the bulb hanging down from the wooden arc will turn on and off in mysterious ways. This version was created by Die Magie des E. Kur and distributed by Eckhard Boettcher with the German title: Nibiru, der Erleuchtete.
It is a nice looking, solid and reliable prop that is easy to operate. One bonus feature with this version is that the cord that holds the bulb can be pulled up a small amount to show the cord is just running through the wooden arc. This is a nice little convincer that everything is above board.
As usual with all versions of this effect the difficulty is to come up with a routine that has some justification for the light. The routine I came up below seems to have some merit and a Speed Demo will be coming soon.
Includes:
Effect: The performer introduces a wooden stand representing Nibiru, The Enlightened One (a white ball hanging from a cord). The white ball is hollow and inside is a small lamp hanging from the cord. All of this can be viewed and examined by the spectator. The stand is placed down and a deck of cards shown to be all different is spread in front.
A match is taken from a small matchbook with the design of bicycle playing cards and lit and waved near the ball, and mysteriously the bulb turns on and shines a light down. With the mystical light now shining the deck is spread face down and the spectator places the match on the back of any freely selected card. The card is turned over and shown to the spectator to remember. The card is cleanly lost into the deck.
The performed now cuts the deck into four piles and the spectator freely places the matchbook on the top of any one. The top cards of the other three piles are shown all to be different and just before each one is turned over the spectator is given the chance to change piles. When the the final pile is left the spectator is asked to blow on the the white ball and the light mysteriously goes out.
The top card is now turned over and it is the spectator’s card. But it doesn’t end their … the matchbook is opened and a mini-version of the chosen card is found printed on the inside demonstrating the true mystical power of Nibiru.
Original Routine Supplied: While you are explaining what NIBIRU actually means, that the Sumerians described NIBIRU as a planet that shines from within, almost like the sun, take a match, light it and briefly hold it under the white ball. At the same moment the ball lights up brightly from within! A short time later, during your demonstration, you blow strongly against the sphere (the disturbance of the atmosphere by cosmic winds), which then goes out again.
As you continue your story, you prove “that the gold dust that the Nibirians released into the atmosphere caused NIBIRU to light up again” by using a match to light up the white ball again. “Until cosmic winds did their work again ….”
