Cocktail Shaker styled Niffin tubes were made in the 1930/40’s by Thayer Quality Magic and Stull too. The first one was invented by American magician Paul Fox (real name Paul Fuchs) in 1935 and debuted by him at the 1936 IBM Convention in Lima, Ohio.
This Thermo Canister by Thayer is a real beauty and certainly looks like some sort of thermos bottle instead of an obvious magician’s prop. I dressed up the routine and added a storage box that also provides ample coverage for the move when required which is always a welcome bonus, instead of having to introduce other props for cover.
Includes:
Does not include: glass or funnel as you probably have these already in your home.
Notice: the lid of one of the tops has two small indentations where it was apparently squeezed. It works fine and in normal usage will not be noticed, but I added some close-up photos at the end so that you can see. Interestingly enough, in the Ultimate Thayer this item is pictured with Cork lids instead of the metal ones so that would be an easy switch if you wanted to go that way. But these caps were perfectly fine as they are as can be seen in the video.
Effect: We have sold lots of the old type changing canisters and have seldom found so practical a device for exchanging, secretly, almost anything that will fit into it: silks, napkins, liquids, flowers, confetti, sand, sugar, salt, rice, etc.
However, the old-time canister looked like nothing modern. Thus we’ve produced a changing canister that looks exactly like an ordinary thermos bottle. It will do all the old one will, works easier, is waterproof and is not at all suspicious in appearance. The spout is chromed and the rest appears to be leather covered.
A fine, professional piece of apparatus and something every magician can use.
