I’m a big fan of Magic Wagon’s old jewelry box finish props, and this 2007 beautiful Siam Card Box is no exception. While I enjoyed the effect, I found it somewhat brief, considering the size of the prop just for a single card prediction.
To make it more captivating, I combined it with a modern hip-sized remake of the Himber Thought Control wallet, creating a more intriguing routine suitable even for a unique venue like the Porcupine 🙂
Effect: The performer begins by presenting a special box containing a red deck of cards, securely locked inside with a ribbon. A blue deck of cards is given to the spectator for shuffling, and they freely choose a card from it.
The performer proceeds to remove the red deck from the box, revealing a single face-down card at the bottom. This card is removed by the spectator and is found to be an exact match to the card they freely selected.
The performer then challenges the audience, saying, “You might be thinking there’s something special about this box, right? Well, let’s skip the box this time. Just pick any card from the red deck and place it on top for safekeeping. I have my wallet here with a $100 bill and a single prediction card inside. If I don’t guess the prediction right, you get to keep the $100. Fair enough?”
For the first time, the performer turns over the chosen card, revealing it as the Four of Diamonds, and the prediction inside the wallet also shows the Four of Diamonds. The performer humorously adds, “I’m sorry you didn’t win the money this time, but at least you got to witness a fantastic effect!” 🙂
Both cards can be different each time you perform this effect. It is easy to perform, with no sleights and fast reset.
