(c. 2009) (
Stephen Tucker creates some very clever and entertaining routines and when he released Himbering Ways in 2009 with Tony Curtis I remember being very impressed with the routines that came with the wallet. The wallet itself has a couple of features not always found on other Himber wallets and Stephen has maximized the routines for these features.
Of the six routines included in the booklet, my favorite four are:
- The Card That Never Was
- Add-a-Number
- Examinable B’Wave
- Prints Of Darkness
These are all very strong and Prints of Darkness and The Card That Never Was will even fool magicians if they don’t pay attention 🙂
The problem with the original package was that it came with no extra gaffed cards and although they are not that hard to find, it would have been nice if a complete package had been created. So I have included all of the cards and extras required for the above four effects and instead of using good old bicycles I used the wonderful Jerry’s Nuggets Modern Feel cards produced by Conjuring Arts. The routines are that good so I thought I would spice them up a bit.
It is not possible to perform all the effects in one sitting but you’ll now have all the cards you need to perform any of the above routines.
There is some really great magic here, in a neat ready to perform package 🙂
Includes:
- Original Booklet (staples removed!) and Himber Wallet
- 2 full decks of Jerry’s Nugget’s Modern Feel ($24 retail)
- Blank faced blue cards and other gaffs that had to be pulled from TWO Gaff Decks ($36 retail)
- A few other duplicate cards pulled from a third Deck ($12 retail)
- A permanent sharpie and a dry erase expo pen needed for two of the routines
- A few envelopes and cards as needed
Effect: Numerous routines call for the use of a Himber wallet but most performers prefer not to use the large style versions. After many customer requests Tony Curtis has produced this classic wallet, made from genuine high-grade leather, in a more discrete size. The Dimensions (closed) are a breast-pocket sized 5″ x 3″ (12.5cm x 7.5cm).
Due to its size, you are able to easily open and close it using just one hand. This facet allows you to have something inserted then in transit, as you move towards anther person, secretly (yet openly) close and re-open it on the OTHER side.
The wallet lays flat on the table and opens very smoothly. The small window compartment inside is also perfect for the visual switching of playing cards, band notes, etc. Includes six easy-to-perform routines. Each effect is explained thoroughly detailing materials required, Set Up, and Performance.
Effects Include:
- The Card That Never Was – A card is selected and signed, then slipped face up into your wallet. You close it, but then immediately open it again, as you have forgotten to remove a face down prediction card, which you table. You close the wallet, make a magical gesture, open it again and their signed card has gone! Someone turns your prediction card face up and … it is their signed card!
- Add-a-Number – A prediction is handed out, as three peopie each write down a three figure number. A fourth person totals them. The prediction is 100% correct!
- Uneasy Money – You open your wallet and show that it contains a folded £10 note. You close it again and make a magical gesture, saying that it will change into a different bank note. You open your wallet again, but nothing seems to have happened. You remove the £10 note, unfold it and discover that half of it has vanished. “Ahhh,” you say “in a strange way it’s changed into a £5.00 note!” This raises a smile or two. You replace the note in the wallet, close it again and repeat the magical gesture. This time when you open it the contents have changed into a £20 note. Unfortunately, when you unfold it, it is only half of a £20 note. “Hmmmm,” you explain, in a strange way it’s still a £10 note… I think I’d better show you a card trick instead!!”
- The Printing Press – Someone selects the three of diamonds, which is then replaced and the deck shuffled. You explain that a second person will now find the first person’s card. Unfortunately, they choose the ace of diamonds. You open the wallet to show that the missing two diamonds are printed on a card in the window compartment. You slip the face up ace into the wallet, close it, apply a little pressure and, when you open the wallet, the two diamonds have vanished from the card in the window compartment. The ace of diamonds is removed and… has transformed into the three of diamonds!
- Examinable B’Wave – Someone selects an invisible ace. Let’s assume that they choose the ace of hearts. You open your wallet to reveal a black envelope, which you remove, as you pocket the wallet. You open the envelope and remove some blue backed playing cards, but when you spread them… their named ace of hearts is face up! When you remove it and turn it over, it has a red back! When you turn the three blue backers face up… they are completely blank! All four cards can be examined.
- Prints Of Darkness – Ask someone to name ANY card. Let’s assume they name the six of clubs. “If you had named the four of hearts,” you say “I would have sneaked it into my wallet, like this, but without you seeing me do so.” Here you show the four of hearts and openly slip it into your wallet. You then remove the four of hearts and return it to the deck. “To get the six of clubs into the wallet will be much harder.” You now show a card that is blank on both sides and slip it into the wallet. You explain that it will print itself into the named six of clubs! You close the wallet, wait a few seconds then open it again. The card is still blank, but when you remove it and turn it over… a back design has appeared! You repeat the process until the card has fully printed and is… the six of clubs!
Tony Curtis Magic is pleased to have exclusively supplied the leather wallet used in these effects in association with Stephen Tucker.
